Interesting Cooking Facts!

As some of you know, I enjoy cooking.. Here are some interesting food facts;

1- To Stop a bag of potatoes from budding, please an apple in the bag.

2- Wrapping celery in aluminum foil before you refrigerate will keep it fresh for weeks

3- Did you make the soup too salty? Cut a potato and put it in - it will soak up the salt

4- A red pepper has 4 times as much Vit.C compared to an orange.

5- Green Bananas? Place in a paper bag with an apple.. They will be ripe in a day or 2.

6- To check the freshness of an egg, put in a pan of cool salted water. If it sinks its good, if it comes to the surface - it's no good.

7- Bananas don't grow on tree's. Their actually giant herbs!

8- Ketchup was originally used as a fish sauce.

9- Vanilla a drug? Apparently vanilla causes the body to release catecholamines (including adrenalin) - for this reason it is considered to be mildly addictive. Also vanilla has been known to fight bacteria.

10 - Its takes 9 months for a pineapple to ripen.

A Night To Pay Tribute To #93

I remember that January day back in 1992 when Cliff Fletcher made the biggest trade in NHL history (10 Players involved).. Sending guys like Leeman (former 50 goal scorer), Michel Petit, and 3 others.. In return the Leafs got Gilmour, Jamie Macoun, and 3 others.. What a deal.. Leeman would never come close to regaining the scoring touch he showed only 2 years earlier... Gilmour on the other hand would turn into one (if not the best) player in the league for the next 2-3 seasons... Helping the Leafs to Semi-Finals twice... Only to be screwed by a bad call in game 6 against LA and Wayne Gretzky in 1993.. Maybe cost them the Stanley Cup.

Here is a little video that pays tribute to killer.. A true Leaf.. Tonight they raise Dougie's number 93 to the top of the Air Canada - Thanks Dougie!

My Sick Sense Of Humour

For those of you who know me, know I have a weird
sense of humour... I like it when people find different
ways to get reactions from others. Take for
example these guys... They take a train horn
(yeah those really loud ones) and attach it
to their car... They drive around town
scaring the crap out of people... Priceless!
Some of the people's reactions are just too
funny.

I've heard a car with a train horn and let me
tell you, it is sooo loud - even if you know
its about to honk, it still rattles you.

Check this video out. Hope you enjoy it
as much as I did.

New Member Of The Family

Looks like their is a new member of the family... This member seems to have also joined Julie & Ed's family, as well as Tom & Barb's family.. Because of this new addition to our families a lot of things will need to be altered - like it or not... It's been the topic of discussion lately at all the family gatherings. How things will change and what new things will be added to everyday life and how certain freedoms will now be gone.

Looks like everyone is looking forward to this new addition.

By the way, this new additions name - The candida diet...

What what diet? Some of you ask... The candida diet is basically a diet used
to clear your system of yeast. Probiotic bacteria usually controls the level of
yeast in your system, but with everyday use of antibiotic, food allergies and other factors kill off a lot of the probiotic bacteria in your system - thus yeasts starts to grow uncontrolled in your body, which in turns leads to a number of other problems.

The Candida diet controls what you eat (no sugar, fruits, yeast, and limited carb's).
It's a very strict diet that seems to work wonders.

Tricia was on the diet for a while back in 2000-01 and she never felt better. Your system gets back to working the way it was meant to work.

Because the diet is so extreme, it alters that way everyone around you eats. The grocery bill is killer. You have to watch what you buy, and of course like
A wise man once said "The toughest part of a diet isn't watching what you eat. It's watching what other people eat." so that last thing you want to do
is sit in front of someone eating something they can't.. Temptation ;)

No I'm not taking part in the diet - its the rebel in me... :)

But for those of you who are - I wish you success.. And next time I'm
enjoying a nice dessert with my coffee (which you can't drink either ;p) - I'll
think of you and hope the pounds you lose don't find you.

Stop The Press!

Both Elizabeth and Justin had their pictures in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago. The newspaper (Corrire Canadese - A Italian newspaper For Italians living in Canada) featured a story about a recent get together of Southern Ontario Tuscan Canadians for the celebration of "La Befana"... La Befana is a character in Italian folklore the goes around giving good children gifts on Jan 6th. Legend has it that back in the days just before Christ's birth. Local astrologers came to her door asking for directions to where the Christ child was born. She was unsure.. They asked her to come along for the journey, she declined.. Days later she changed her mind and went looking for the Christ child but never found him... So every year around Christmas time she makes her way to the children of the world giving gifts hope to one day find the Christ child.

The newspaper had a picture of the Elizabeth drawing La Befana and a second picture of Luca's aunt Louise reading the children the story. Both Justin and Elizabeth were in the second picture.
